Eyebrows define your face, enhancing the beauty of your eyes and improving your overall facial symmetry. The question on women’s minds is – what is the new trend this month?
Undoubtedly, eyebrow feathering has become the new trend on the market in the never-ending list of ever-changing beauty crazes. The brow feathering technique has become increasingly popular in recent years as fuller brows and natural beauty are being embraced and leading the popular beauty trend.
What Are Feather Brows?
Eyebrow feathering is cosmetic tattooing where precise, individual hair strokes are created to mimic brow hair. It involves creating small hair-like strokes in your natural brow hair, whether you have gaps in the brows, sparse brow hair or minimal to no brow hair feathering creates a fuller, more shapely brow. Fear not we do not create the solid, block brow look, feathering is a more natural-looking eyebrow alternative to creating beautiful brows for you.
How to Do Eyebrow Feathering?
Brow feathering, also known as microblading, is a technique used to create natural-looking eyebrows typically performed using a manual tool, a microblade to create small hair-like strokes in the skin.
The process of brow feathering generally involves the following steps:
- Consultation: The artist will begin by discussing your desired brow shape and style, assessing your skin type and overall suitability for the procedure. Detailing the contraindications, pre and post feathering prep to achieve the best possible outcome for the client.
- Brow Mapping the shape: Using a pencil the artist will map the outline of the desired brow shape on your skin, taking into account your natural brow shape, hair growth, facial muscle movement and features.
- Pre Numb Topical Anaesthetic : To minimise discomfort during the procedure, the client can choose to use a topical numbing cream.
- Creating Hair Strokes: Using a handheld tool with a tiny microblade, the artist will create small, hair-like strokes in the skin, mimicking the natural growth pattern of eyebrow hair. The artist will typically work stroke by stroke, gradually building the desired thickness and shape of the brows.
- Pigment Colour : Colour is discussed before the treatment and is determined by several factors : skin colour, clients daily makeup routine, hair colour, thickness of brow hair. The pigment is not matched with the existing hair, the pigment is a ‘shadow’ creating depth behind your existing hair and where you have gaps in the brow we create additional depth of colour in these areas, balancing the hair and missing hair areas seamlessly. When creating the fine hair strokes pigment is carefully implanted with the microblade into the skin.
- Final touches: Sitting the client up we make the final adjustments to the brow.
The healing process for brow feathering takes approximately 4 weeks. The first week is when you visually see and experience most of the healing. The first 1-5 days the body is initially trying to reject the pigment, pushing the pigment out while the pigment is working to settle into the skin. Day 5-8 you may experience some flaking of the skin, this is an indication the healing is progressing nicely, this is not dry skin it is dead skin cells flaking off as the new skin heals over the hair stroke and brow pigment. By week 2-3 the pigment will soften as it settles in the skin, the colour may appear faded but in the next week or 2 the pigment will push back and closer to the skin’s surface. It is important to follow the aftercare instructions to ensure your brows DO NOT SCAB and you achieve the best brow outcome. The perfect Retouch feathering session is when we address pigment fading, additional hair strokes – you will NOT return perfect, the retouch session is when your brows are perfected and are transformed to real life brows.
Do Feather-Touch Brows Hurt?
Brow feathering or microblading can be uncomfortable, but most people do not find it overly painful. The sensation during the procedure is often described as a scratching or scraping feeling, and some people may feel a mild to moderate level of discomfort.
To minimise any discomfort during the procedure, you may apply a topical numbing cream to the brow area before starting the treatment. This will help numb the surface brow skin area and reduce any pain or discomfort.
After the procedure, some people may experience mild swelling or tenderness in the brow area, it can feel like the skin is slightly bruised, which typically subsides within a few days. It is important to follow the artist’s aftercare instructions carefully to ensure the best possible healing and pigment retention.
Brow feathering is a cosmetic tattooing technique that can create natural-looking eyebrows, and while there may be some mild discomfort during the procedure, most people find it quite tolerable. Following the treatment you are able to return immediately to work, you are socially acceptable and you are able to wear makeup while the brows are healing (obviously not on the brow feathering while the skin is healing).
